About the YHA

The York Hospitality Association is a trade organisation for Accommodation providers, Caterers, Attractions and all Tourism businesses.

Our mission is to enhance York's reputation as an outstanding destination and a centre of excellence for hospitality and tourism. We offer support, advice, and social opportunities to our members.  The Association works closely with the British Hospitality Association and is a highly active partner within First Stop York. (The public/private sector partnership that co-ordinates tourism policy in York).

Representation
We aim to represent everyone in the York tourism industry. Our membership has now risen to over 100, so we speak with a considerable voice. We campaign to encourage the city council to spend more on tourism and to spend money more wisely. Over recent years we have helped save Marygate car park, place brown signs on the A1, and launch the York Food Festival. With your help we will speak louder!

We speak on your behalf in the Tourism Strategy Group, York College's Catering Liaison Group, The Food Festival Committee, York Tourism Training's Management Committee, Safer York Partnership, First Stop York and many other meetings.

Support / Advice
Through our Hon. Secretary, members can obtain legal advice. The association is a member of the British Hospitality Association, The Chamber of Commerce, National Council of Hotels and Guest House Association, and the Yorkshire Tourist Board. We work with those organisations to help members, and to co-ordinate lobbying at a regional and national level.

In association with City of York Environmental Health Officers we produce a guide giving simple instructions on how to write a health and safety policy.

Accommodation Brochure
The association publishes one of the official "First Stop York" guides. Entry in the accommodation guide is free to members; and 25,000 copies are printed every year. It is distributed to TICs, and to York Organisations who bring visitors to the city. The guide is especially valued by many smaller members as a source of business.
